Standing Voice expands skin cancer prevention pilot to three new regions in Tanzania

A community-based skin cancer prevention programme reporting a 38% drop in late-stage diagnoses is scaling up with new clinics, mobile outreach, and training for regional dermatologists.

Standing Voice announced the expansion of its skin cancer prevention pilot to three additional regions in Tanzania after a multi-year evaluation showed a 38% reduction in late-stage diagnoses among enrolled participants.

The programme combines regular dermatology clinics, sunscreen distribution, early detection training, and community health worker follow-up. Under the expansion, mobile outreach teams will reach rural communities that have historically lacked access to specialist dermatology services.

Dr. Lucy Bhola, who leads clinical operations, said the model's strength comes from embedding it in local health structures rather than parallel NGO infrastructure. The next phase will train regional dermatologists and nurses so that services continue after Standing Voice exits.

Funders include the UK's Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office and several private foundations. Evaluation results will be published next quarter.
